Meteorologist, Jeff Jumper from Fox 43, visits Mr. Murphy's 4th Grade Class

Mr. Murphy's 4th grade class was visited by Mr. Jeff Jumper, a meteorologist from Fox 43, on March 11th.  Mr. Jumper came to give a presentation on weather, a topic they have been studying recently in Science. His presentation included demonstrations of weather principles along with the sharing of great information.  The students also were able to ask many good questions about meteorology.  Mr. Jumper's visit was featured on Fox43 Morning News.  Please click the link below to watch!

Spring Picture Day Rescheduled     

We have rescheduled spring picture day for Monday, April 13th.

You will not be receiving any new flyers with the new date.  Just send in the order forms on April 13th. Lifetouch will be sending out new reminders to go home with the students closer to the picture date.

Due to school being closed because of snow and ice, we will now have school on Friday, March 13th; Monday, March 16th; Thursday, April 2nd; and Friday, May 8th to make up the missed school days.

SAFETY PROCEDURES FOR PARENT/GUARDIAN LUNCHTIME VISITS
 
The district recognizes the importance of taking every possible preventative measure to keep children safe.  We also value parental visibility and their support within our school buildings.  Therefore, parents and guardians who have obtained volunteer status for the current school year may visit their child in the cafeteria during their assigned lunch period.  To ensure a safe and positive school environment for all students, your adherence to the following guidelines is expected and appreciated.*

District Announcements

Washington Township Update

The Special Committee of the State Board of Education was established to facilitate the Board’s consideration of the Application of the Washington Township Independent School District (Washington Township) to transfer from the Dover Area School District to the Northern York County School District.

The hearing will be held in the Jury Assembly Room, 4th Floor, York County Judicial Center, 45 North George Street, York, PA 17401. On Wednesday, June 3, the hearing will convene at 10:00 a.m. On Thursday, June 4, the hearing will re-convene at 9:00 a.m.

The Board will provide an opportunity for comment from members of the public who wish to provide remarks on the application for transfer. Public comment is limited to no more than 5 minutes per person. Individuals wishing to make comment at the public hearing must register in advance no later than Wednesday, May 27, 2015, by telephoning the State Board office at (717) 787-3787 (TYY 717-783-8445), Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. or via email at ra-stateboardofed@pa.gov.

North Salem Elementary Holds Door Decorating Contest

Each year, North Salem holds a Door Decorating Contest to celebrate Read Across America. With all things we do at NSE, we want to encourage a love for reading and this contest does just that! Click here to view all of the doors and the winners.




North Salem Elementary School: Distinguished Title 1 School
 

Congratulations to North Salem Elementary School for being recognized by the Pennsylvania State Department of Education as a Distinguished Title 1 School as well as a recipient of a $50,000 collaboration grant! North Salem Elementary will use the grant money to purchase new technology for both students and teachers, provide professional development opportunities for teachers, and establish a working partnership with York Academy Regional Charter School to provide online classroom experiences for both schools. A special thank you goes out to the students and teachers who worked very hard to achieve this recognition! 



Heroes Wax Museum at North Salem Elementary

     
The 4th grade students at North Salem Elementary researched a person who made an important impact in our world and presented a Heroes Wax Museum to parents and grandparents on Friday, March 13th.

     



Aevidum Kick-Off at Dover High School

Students, guests, staff, administrators, and school board members helped in kicking-off the high school's new organization on 3/18/15.  There were well over 900 people in attendance.  Thanks to everyone for making the kick-off a success and remember "I've got your back."  Please check out the following link for information on Aevidum:

Loretta Claiborne visits Weigelstown

  
Loretta Claiborne came to Weigelstown Elementary to thank staff for supporting Special Olympics floor hockey.  While she was there, she congratulated students who were recognized as Soaring Eagles for the 2nd trimester.  Students who display exemplary behavior and follow the EAGLES rules receive this honor and are invited to a VIP lunch with the principal.  It is one of the ways our school recognizes students for their successes.

   



PA Middle School Computer Fair – First Place!

   

Tyler Sengia, eighth grade student, took first place in Web Page Design and will be representing Dover Area School District at the state competition in May at Dickinson College.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program at the Dover High School

This year Dover Area School District is proud to again host the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program at the Dover High School.  Parking will be in the main front parking lot west of the main entrance.  Follow the signs to the entrance door and for building navigation.


The VITA Program offers free tax help to households who made $53,000 or less in 2014

and need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. VITA also provides free online

self-assisted tax preparation for households who made $59,000 or less in 2014.


Call 717.854.2244 on or after January 20 to schedule a tax preparation appointment.

The PA Legislature has amended the Child Protective Services Law numerous times over the past year.  The most recent changes came to us through Act 153 of 2014, which focuses on criminal background checks and impacts everyone employed, substituting or volunteering in a school district, effective immediately.

The PA Legislature has amended the Child Protective Services Law numerous times over the past year.  The most recent changes came to us through Act 153 of 2014 which focuses on criminal background checks and impacts everyone employed, substituting or volunteering in a school district, effective immediately.  Please review each of the links below for the appropriate information.

The Dover Area School District has established the internal deadline date of August 1, 2015 for employees to complete the submission of their clearances to the Human Resources Department. Please note; it is the obligation of each individual to accept the financial responsibility to obtain and submit all three (3) clearances to the district as required.  When you obtain your new clearances, please submit them to the attention of Mrs. Heather Thomas – Payroll Coordinator/HR Secretary at the Administration Building.  Please understand, this is a state mandate and as such requirements are placed on the district if documents are not provided by the deadline.
