Dover Area Board of Directors Approve a Tentative 2016-2017 Budget

April 21, 2016 – Dover Area School District’s Board of School Directors approved a tentative 2016-2017 budget on Thursday, which continues to place an emphasis on the educational needs of the community.

The $58,699,842 budget holds the line on real estate taxes for the second year, maintaining Dover’s 2015-2016 millage rate of 21.934, while eliminating the unpopular per capita tax.  The proposed budget includes an assumption of no increased state funding and the use of $1,442,096 of the approximately $3.8M of committed fund balance for employer retirement contributions.

The proposed 2016-2017 budget redirects resources to educational programming through the following cost neutral initiatives:  expanding the one-to-one initiative in grades 4-12; implementing a new reading program K-5 (Journeys); expanding the District’s current reading series to 6th grade (Collections); adding supplemental materials to our current Social Studies curriculum K-6; expanding in-house responsibility for alternative education; launching of a new Student Information System (Skyward); and responding to the ever-changing needs of the District’s special education populations.

The proposed budget is subject to change and the Board of School Directors will vote on the 2016-2017 final budget on May 24, 2016.

Copies of the proposed budget are available for inspection at the District’s Administration offices and the District’s website:
